It’s so interesting how people underestimate young people, and especially children, and to see Mac Miller grow his platform the way he did before he passed was so amazing to see and even made me proud as a random Spotif y listener. The lyrics “When I was young they told me to wait until I’m older” stuck with me throughout the entire rest of the song. Honorable Mention: Under The Weather – I love the messages behind this song because they’re something that anyone, at any age, can relate to.
For that reason, it makes sense that this song would be so popular within the album, but it was interesting to see that it was the most popular song, especially because I feel as though it doesn’t capture that classic “Mac Miller vibe.” The further you go into the lyrics and the pacing, the more you realize how the pacing and lyrics parallel Mac Miller’s reactions and emotions toward the situation. After listening to it a couple of times, I realized that I loved the lyrics and how the pacing differed throughout the song. Most Popular: Missed Calls – When I first looked at this album to find the “Most Popular” song and I clicked on this, I was shocked. If you take anything away from this review, listen to this song immediately. I don’t know what it is about this song, but Mac Miller’s pacing and the background music have something powerful in them, enough to get me in a good mood as I’m pulling an all-nighter. Before I listened to this song, I was tired and in a tired mood, but let me tell you, this song brought my mood up immediately and I could tell it would within the first couple seconds. Most Underrated: Up All Night – This song is the absolute epitome of just good vibes. Mac Miller has definitely given everyone who listens to this song a reason to “Smile Back.” This song is something I could listen to while walking to class, driving down a highway at 1 a.m., while working out this song is extremely versatile, but exerts such special energy that you want to continue listening to it five times after you finish.
Mac Miller demonstrates his ability to rap under different conditions, like a different pitch, and it shines because of how well he does it. This album is the epitome of Mac Miller and his music and even if you aren’t the biggest fan of his, I would highly recommend giving this “old skool” (yes skool) rap album a listen, or even just one of the songs I mention below :).īest Overall: Smile Back – As soon as you hear “Mac Miller,” this is what you think of, and yes, in a good way. I had only heard some of Mac Miller’s newer music and didn’t understand what people meant when they said that a certain song had a “Mac Miller vibe” until now.
